Philipp Umek, MA studied Political Science at the University of Innsbruck and is a member of the ICER-Team since June 2015. His main focus was the European Parliament and the European integration process. In his research he was evaluating the role of the EURATOM-Treaties concerning the opportunity structures for the European Parliament.
His Master Thesis studied the effects on voter turnout of differing opening hours of polling places in Austria for European and national elections. The thesis was honoured with the Marianne-Barcal-award by the City of Innsbruck in June 2020.
Currently he is researching voter turnout in Austrian local elections for his PhD project embedded in the Research Center Spheres of Governance: Institutions and Agency (Link).
